About us

Mowers, power, performance

DeskDodes sells lawn mowers and power equipment — walk-behinds, riding mowers, stand-ons and zero-turns from Toro and Craftsman, along with the blades, belts and filters that keep them running.

Buying a mower online usually means a flat-packed box, a bag of bolts and a Saturday you didn't plan on spending. We do it differently. Every machine that leaves us has been assembled, filled with oil and started by a technician, so the first pull you make is the one that mows your lawn.

Our story

DeskDodes started from a straightforward observation: the mower business online was built around shipping boxes, not around the person who has to use what's inside. Machines arrived part-built with a manual and a bag of hardware, and the first weekend went on assembly instead of mowing. When something didn't start, the buyer was on their own with a call centre that had never held a spark plug.

So we built the workshop first and the storefront second. Every machine we sell comes out of a bench before it goes into a crate. That means we've had hands on the exact model you're buying, and when you call with a question, you're talking to somebody who has assembled one.

New York based, shipping nationwide

We're in Springfield Gardens, New York. Walk-behind mowers go out by courier; riders, stand-ons and zero-turns ship by pallet freight with a booked delivery window, because a 54-inch zero-turn does not fit in a parcel van.

What we're for

Our mission

Match every customer to the right machine for their lawn, and hand it over ready to work. The wrong-sized mower is the most common mistake in this business, and it costs the buyer either a wasted Saturday every week or several thousand dollars they didn't need to spend.

Our vision

To be the place people buy their second mower from as well as their first — because the parts were in stock, the advice was honest, and the machine still starts five seasons in. Repeat business in power equipment is earned in the service department, not the checkout.

What we sell

Five categories, chosen so there's a sensible answer for every size of lawn rather than a catalogue of near-identical machines.

Walk-behind mowers
22 to 30 inch decks with self-propelled drive. The right answer for anything up to about an acre.
Riding mowers
Rear-engine riders that fit through a standard side gate, for the point where walking stops making sense.
Stand-on mowers
Commercial machines for lawn rounds with a lot of gates. On and off in a second, and the platform folds to walk behind.
Zero-turn mowers
Up to 54 inches of deck with suspension platforms, built for two acres and up where a walk-behind means a full day.
Parts & blades
Genuine blades, belts, filters and plugs for every model we sell, kept in stock so a service isn't a three-week wait.

Why buy a mower from us

  • Assembled and test-started: a technician builds it, fills the oil and runs it before it's crated
  • Warranty registered for you: engine warranty is filed at checkout, so there's no card to post
  • Parts held, not ordered: wear items for our models sit on the shelf
  • Advice from mechanics: the people answering the phone have assembled the machine you're asking about
  • Free 30-day returns: thirty days from delivery to change your mind on an unused machine

How we work

Right size, not biggest sale
If a 22-inch walk-behind covers your lawn, we'll say so rather than sell you a zero-turn. Oversold machines come back as returns.
Nothing ships untested
Every engine is run before dispatch. It's slower than shipping boxes, and it's the reason our machines start.
Honest about limits
Slopes, gate widths, freight access. We'd rather raise the awkward question before you order than after the pallet arrives.
Serviceable, not disposable
We stock parts for what we sell. A mower should last a decade, not be replaced when a belt goes.
Clear pricing
The price on the product page is the price you pay. No fee that appears at the last step of checkout.
Real people on the phone
Call with a model and serial number and you'll reach someone who can identify the part you need.

Before and after the sale

Choosing the machine

Deck width against lot size decides nearly everything else about a mower purchase. Tell us the size of the lawn, the slope, and the width of the narrowest gate on the property, and we can narrow five machines down to one. That conversation takes ten minutes and saves a return.

  • Lawn sizing: honest guidance on what deck width your acreage actually needs
  • Access check: gate widths, slopes and freight access before you order, not after
  • Model comparison: plain answers on where two machines genuinely differ

Keeping it running

  • Parts identification: call with your model and serial number and we'll match the part
  • Seasonal service: what to change and when, so a mower makes it to season five
  • Warranty claims: we registered it, so we can help you use it

Delivery and returns

  • Free standard shipping on orders within the United States
  • Delivery: walk-behinds by courier, riders and zero-turns by pallet freight with a booked window
  • Free 30-day returns on unused machines — see our Refund & Return Policy
  • Damage in transit: tell us straight away and we'll handle it as a carrier claim, not a return

The workshop

The people who assemble the machines are the people who answer the phone. That's deliberate. When you ask whether a 30-inch deck clears your gate, or why a mower is bogging in wet grass, you get an answer from someone who has had that model on a bench, not a script.

It also keeps us honest. It's difficult to oversell a machine to someone when you're the one who'll be talking them through the return.

What's next

We're growing the range around the same principle: enough choice to cover every size of lawn, not so much that choosing becomes the hard part.

  • Battery equipment: cordless mowers and handhelds as the platforms mature
  • Wider parts stock: more wear items held for the models we sell
  • Maintenance guides: blade sharpening, oil changes and winter storage, written plainly
  • Trade accounts: pricing and parts availability for lawn-care businesses

Not sure which machine fits your lawn?

Give us the acreage, the slope and the narrowest gate on the property. That's usually enough to name the machine — and to rule out the ones you'd have regretted.
