2. How we use it
Selling and delivering equipment
- Processing your order and taking payment
- Arranging courier or pallet freight delivery, including booking a delivery window
- Registering your engine warranty with the manufacturer
- Identifying the correct parts for your machine from its model and serial number
- Handling returns, damage claims and warranty work
Communication

- Marketing emails about stock and seasonal offers — only if you opted in, and you can unsubscribe from any of them
Running the business
- Preventing fraudulent orders and chargebacks
- Keeping accounting and tax records as the law requires
- Understanding which machines and pages people are interested in, so we stock better
Why we ask about your property
Riding mowers and zero-turns ship by pallet freight. To quote and deliver accurately we may ask about access to your address — driveway width, gate size, whether a truck with a tail lift can reach you. We use those details to arrange delivery and nothing else.
3. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only in these situations:
Service providers
- Payment processors: to take payment securely
- Couriers and freight carriers: your name, address and phone number, so they can deliver and call ahead
- Manufacturers: your name and machine serial number, to register the warranty and process claims
- Email and website providers: to send order emails and run the store
When the law requires it
- To comply with a court order, subpoena or lawful government request
- To investigate fraud or protect our legal rights
- To enforce our terms of service
If the business changes hands
If DeskDodes is sold or merged, customer information may transfer to the new owner. We will give you notice if that happens.
4. Data security
Overstating security is itself a misrepresentation, so remove anything below that isn't true of your setup.
- Encryption in transit: the site runs over HTTPS, so data sent between your browser and us is encrypted
- Payment handling: card details go directly to our payment processor and are not stored on our servers
- Access limits: only staff who need customer data to do their job can reach it
- Hosting: our store runs on managed hosting with the provider's standard security and backup arrangements
No system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that information sent over the internet is safe from interception, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold. If a breach affects your data, we will notify you as required by law.
5. Cookies and tracking
Essential
Needed for the site to work — keeping items in your cart, staying logged in, and completing checkout. These can't be switched off.
Performance
Tell us which pages get visited and where people get stuck, so we can fix problems.
Functional
Remember preferences like your region so you don't re-enter them.
Marketing
Used to measure advertising and show relevant ads.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies will stop the cart and checkout from working.
6. Third-party services
- Analytics: to understand site traffic and which machines people look at
- Payment processing: to take card and wallet payments
- Email delivery: to send order and marketing emails
- Live chat: to answer questions during opening hours
- Reviews: to collect and display verified customer reviews
Each of these has its own privacy policy governing how it handles your data. We recommend reading them.
7. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights. Residents of California and several other US states have specific statutory rights; if you're in the EU or UK, the GDPR applies.
Access and portability
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Ask how and why we process it
- Receive it in a portable format
Correction and deletion
- Correct information that's wrong or out of date
- Ask us to delete your information, subject to records we must keep by law (tax and warranty records, for example)
Marketing and consent
- Unsubscribe from marketing email at any time, using the link in any message
- Withdraw consent where our processing relies on it
- Object to or restrict certain processing
How to make a request
Email us at the address in section 12 and say what you'd like. We may need to verify your identity before acting. We'll respond within the time your local law allows — 45 days under California law, 30 days under the GDPR.
8. How long we keep data
Don't publish a retention schedule you don't follow.
- Order and payment records: kept as long as tax and accounting law requires
- Warranty and serial number records: kept for the life of the warranty, so claims can be verified
- Account information: kept while your account is open, and deleted on request afterwards
- Marketing lists: removed when you unsubscribe
- Analytics: retained according to our analytics provider's settings
When we no longer need information, we delete or anonymise it.
9. Children's privacy
Our store is intended for adults. Power equipment is not sold to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International transfers
We operate from the United States, and our service providers may process data in other countries. If you order from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and stored in the US, where privacy laws differ from those in your country.
Where the law requires a transfer safeguard, we put an appropriate one in place with the provider concerned.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our practices or the law change. The revision date at the top of the page always shows the current version.
If we make a change that materially affects how we handle your information, we'll tell registered customers by email. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
